Hinton Lumber Products LLC Expands Automated Pallet Manufacturing to Meet Sam’s Club 48”x40” Block Pallet Requirement Deadline

TUSCALOOSA, AL & La Porte, TX — Effective May 1, 2025, Sam’s Club will exclusively accept inbound shipments on its approved 48”x40”block pallet design, officially ending the use of traditional stringer-style pallets within its supply chain. While both new and repaired block pallets are permitted, the specification must conform to Sam’s four-way, block-class standard, driving a rapid shift for suppliers long accustomed to sourcing and shipping on used stringer pallets.

To support this transition, Hinton Lumber Products LLC, a national leader in automated assembly systems for high-volume pallet manufacturing, has ramped up production of Sam’s-compliant block pallets from its automated facilities in Alabama and Texas, offering a dependable, competitively priced supply chain solution.

“This is a big change for suppliers who’ve relied on refurbished stringers for decades,” said Craig Stanton, Vice President of Sales at Hinton Lumber Products LLC. “But we’re built for this moment. With two high-speed plants and automated lines, we can meet national demand with quality and pricing that help our customers stay compliant and stay competitive.”

Revolutionizing Supply Chains with Automated Pallet Manufacturing

The Sam’s Club-approved 48” x 40” block pallet—available in Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) and import pine versions—is designed to maximize compatibility with today’s automated warehousing and manufacturing systems. It features full four-way forklift entry, double-faced construction, and a non-reversible build, all optimized for conveyor systems, robotic handling, and high-density racking environments.

At Hinton Lumber Products LLC, these pallets are produced using advanced robotic pallet assembly lines that maintain dimensional accuracy and structural integrity at scale. The result: less downtime, fewer system interruptions, and smoother flow through modern facilities.

“Automation doesn’t tolerate variance,” said Craig Stanton, Vice President of Sales. “Our fully automated plants allow us to produce high volumes of Sam’s Club pallets that are consistent, reliable, and performance-ready. That’s a critical advantage for customers with throughput goals.”

Each wooden pallet is designed to complete approximately 56 trips through the supply chain, with standardized repairs expected after about 14 uses. Hinton Lumber Products LLC’s optional QR codes enable advanced tracking and traceability in integrated logistics environments.

Limited Availability of Used Block Pallets Sparks Urgent Demand in the Supply Chain

With the May 1 deadline approaching, demand is surging for new block-style pallets that meet Sam’s Club’s updated specification. Many suppliers—especially those accustomed to shipping on used stringer pallets—are now working quickly to secure compliant inventory, but the market for used block pallets remains extremely limited.

“We’ve had long-time Sam’s vendors coming to us saying, ‘I’ve shipped on used stringer pallets for 20 years—what do I do now?’” Stanton added. “Hinton is that answer. We’re ready, and we’re delivering nationwide.”
