Specialty Pallets Built for the Uncommon Load

We deliver the precision, durability, and customization you need

When your product doesn’t fit a standard pallet, Hinton Lumber builds one that does. Specialty pallets are purpose-built for loads, environments, or processes that require more than a standard machine-built design. Whether it’s oversized materials, fragile configurations, or automation-specific systems.

These pallets fall outside the size and design parameters of typical automated pallet lines, which generally accommodate builds between 30″ x 30″ and 60″ x 60″. Specialty pallets are often constructed by hand or begin as a machine-built base that’s modified for specific use.

System Pallets (Slave Pallets)

These pallets are engineered to function within automated warehouse systems, AS/RS environments, or conveyor-driven operations. Often referred to as captive pallets, they stay within a closed-loop network. Many feature CNC router-cut components for precision alignment with robotics, scanners, or racking.

Custom Modifications & Hybrid Designs

Some specialty pallets start as standard block or stringer designs but are enhanced for unique applications. We offer:

  • Plywood decking for smoother or more uniform surfaces
  • Extra blocking or perimeter support
  • Custom notching, angled edges, or rounded corners
  • Add-ons for stability or stacking support

These hybrid designs allow faster production with tailored functionality.

What Makes a Pallet ‘Specialty’?

  • Exceeds standard dimensions or design tolerances
  • Serves a high-value or fragile load
  • Requires tight interface with machinery or automation
  • Involves multiple materials or complex joinery
  • Functions as part of a fixed system (i.e., “captive”)
  • Requires special coatings, branding, or barcoding
